Sweet Onion Teriyaki Turkey Burger

For dinner last night, I had one of the turkey burgers that I prepped and froze on Sunday.  I had a hard time deciding between the Roasted Red Pepper & Feta burger and the Teriyaki burger, but I settled on the Teriyaki.  I had the burger topped with a few slices of tomatoes, a side of cinnamon sweet potato fries, (recipe coming soon!), and a side of fresh veggies!

ImageAs promised, here’s the recipe for the teriyaki turkey burger. Keep it mind this only makes one burger, so you’ll have to make some adjustments if you’re cooking for more than one 🙂

1/4 lb lean ground turkey

1/8 c. chopped onions

1 T. chopped mushrooms

1 T. low sodium soy sauce

1/4 t. Szechuan sauce

1 t. egg

a drizzle of olive oil to sauté the onions

First, you’re going to want to sauté the onions until they become clear to bring out that sweet flavor in them.  Next and last, just mix all ingredients together and form into a patty.  Use more or less of anything according to your taste!  You can freeze these in individual zip-lock freezer bags and save them for a quick meal like I did or enjoy right away 🙂

One last note:  The mushrooms are completely optional.  I just like to throw them into any meat loafs or burgers I make because they are a great meat filler and you don’t usually add the flavor of mushroom, but they do increase the volume of the food for barely any calories.
